The Institute for Physiology and Pathophysiology is a scientific institution assigned to the Faculty of Medicine of Heidelberg University. Its tasks are education and research in physiology.

About 80 people work in two divisions, headed by the Professors Dr. Andreas Draguhn and Dr. Markus Hecker, their associated independent working groups lead by Prof. Dr. Oliver Kann and Prof. Dr. Hugo Marti, respectively, the working group Medical Biophysics of Prof. Dr. Rainer Fink, and the administration.

Members of the institute jointly teach lecture and lab courses in physiology for the approximately 450 students of medicine and dentistry admitted annually to Heidelberg University.
