Electronic laboratory notebook eLabFTW

Anyone who has ever worked in a lab will know that documentation of experiments is absolutely essential, yet at the same time one of the least favorite aspects of laboratory work. The tool of choice here is the lab notebook. However, traditional paper lab notebooks have weaknesses compared to digital online tools, particularly in the areas of readability, searchability, collaboration and resistance to caffeinated drinks. Heidelberg University provides the electronic lab notebook eLabFTW to all researchers.

eLabFTW contains modules for documenting protocols and experiments, managing samples, reagents and equipment, and much more. Of particular interest for users at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg is that eLabFTW offers the possibility to work with pseudonymised patient data. eLabFTW is an open source software and is hosted at the University Computing Center (URZ). All data stored by eLabFTW is encrypted and remains on university servers.

The service is operated and managed by the URZ in the context of the Research Data Unit (RDU), the joint service facility of the University Computing Center and Heidelberg University Library as a provider of central services for archiving and publishing research data.

stack overflow for teams

Stack Overflow for Teams is a collaborative platform for sharing knowledge within organisations and communities. Building on the familiar structure of Stack Overflow, it enables teams to share questions and answers internally, document knowledge and make expert knowledge accessible in the long term - all in a secure, private environment. The platform can be seamlessly integrated into existing tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams or GitHub and thus supports the daily workflow.

Stack Overflow for Teams is more than just a Q&A tool - it is also intended to offer the community of AI researchers at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg the opportunity to find collaboration partners who are working on similar topics and thus promote networking within the community.

The use of our Stack Overflow for Teams instance is free for everyone at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg.
