About the apl. procedure

Applications for the award of the title "Außerplanmäßige:r Professor:in" must be submitted via the Dean's Office of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty. The application documents must be submitted in writing to the Dean's Office of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty.

If the application is successfully reviewed by an expert commission, the procedure is officially initiated by the Faculty Council.

Two independent external expert opinions are then obtained. If the review is positive, the Faculty Council recommends that the application be forwarded to the Senate, where it is finalized.

Once the certificate has been awarded by Heidelberg University, the applicant is entitled to use the title "apl. Professor". According to Section 26 (4) of the University's Basic Regulations (Grundordnung der Universität), the teaching authorization can be revoked and thus the title "Außerplanmäßige:r Professor:in" withdrawn if no teaching activity has taken place for two years.

Applications to initiate the proceedings must be submitted at least three weeks before the respective meeting of the Faculty Council. The dates of Faculty Council meetings can be found on the website of the Faculty Office.
