About the apl. procedure
The application for the award/re-award of the title "apl. Professor" must be submitted via the Dean's Office of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg, INF 672, 69120 Heidelberg. The requirements according to the current guidelines of the apl. leaflet must be fulfilled in advance. The complete documents must be submitted to the Dean's Office of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg. Prior to opening the procedure in the Faculty Council, an expert committee checks whether the submitted applications fulfil the criteria set by the faculty for the award of the title in the area of teaching and research. If this is the case, the the procedure can be initiated in the Faculty Council. 2 independent external reviewers must confirm that the applicant fulfils the requirements placed on professors in permanent positions. If the Faculty Council recommends forwarding the application to the Senate, the Senate will finalise the application. Once the certificate has been awarded by Heidelberg University, the applicant is authorised to use the title "apl. Professor" from the day the certificate is issued. Pursuant to Section 26 (4) of the Grundordnung der Universität, the authorisation to teach may be revoked and thus the title "apl. Professor" withdrawn if the person obliged to teach has not taught for two years for reasons within their control. The Dean's Office asks applicants to submit their applications as early as possible (3 weeks before the respective meeting of the Faculty Council).
