Programs funded by the Medical Faculty Heidelberg

The goal of the funding provided by the Medical Faculty is to strengthen high-quality and internationally competitive research and to provide targeted career development measures. The Medical Faculty Heidelberg funds both clinically applied, patient-oriented research as well as fundamental medical research.

The Collaborative Seed Grant Program of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg is a project and networking funding program for outstanding, experienced natural scientists and researching physicians at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg. The central aim of the Collaborative Seed Grant Program is to promote new, collaborative research concepts from different specialist areas in biomedicine through start-up funding, thereby strengthening the networking of scientists and building interdisciplinary bridges. The target group of this measure are research group leaders and scientists/doctors working in science and/or clinical practice at the level of experienced postdoctoral researchers.

Funding is available for joint research projects involving two researchers from different specializations and/or institutes/clinics of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg. Projects that combine preclinical and clinical research can also be funded.

The funding period is two years with a maximum funding amount totaling up to 150,000 euros per project. The funds can be used to finance personnel, material, travel and publication costs as well as fees for the use of core facilities in an appropriate amount.

Please note that this year's call for proposals has ended. The next call for proposals is expected to take place in autumn 2025.

The Medical Faculty Heidelberg has established financial incentives for internal research funding. In the bonus program for third-party funding program, researchers are granted a bonus for third-party funding which has been competitively acquired and awarded in a recognized review process for biomedical projects in fundamental research and clinically applied, patient-oriented research.

In addition, the faculty has set up a bonus program for leading publications. Original publications on research results that were primarily produced at an institution of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty are considered for this program.
