Course of study & contents
The degree programme in medicine takes six years and three months to complete and consinsts of three study cycles: The preclinical studies, the clinical studies and the practical year. All study cycles are concluded by a state examination, each of which have to be passed to be admitted to the next study cycle.
The course free semester in the fifth year of study is often used to complete parts of the doctoral thesis.
Specialty training (Facharztausbildung) follows after obtaining the degree. This is in-service training of at least five years which has to be completed at a accredited clinic or institute.
