Health research

Around two thirds of all diseases remain incurable. This means that, for most diseases, the best that is currently possible is the treatment of symptoms. For many diseases, not even treating the symptoms is possible. Health research is therefore of great importance. New or better diagnostic procedures and therapies are being developed here to help sick people more effectively. And new approaches and ways of prevention are being sought to help thwart diseases from developing in the first place. The BMFTR funds health research with around €500 million.

Application procedure

Generally, BMFTR applications are submitted in two stages. Please consult the conditions of the respective call for proposals.

The easy-online portal is available for submitting project outlines for the funding of new projects.

Researchers at the Medical Faculty Heidelberg and Heidelberg University Hospital can request instructions on how to complete the relevant forms from Dean's Office for Research.

After submitting a project outline to the responsible project management organization and receiving detailed advice on the scientific and technical content from the relevant specialist program, the application will be formulated, checked against the general funding conditions and submitted for a decision. If your application is approved, you will be asked by the relevant project management organization to apply for funding. We recommend using the electronic application system easy-online to complete the application.
