  • The INBC offers space, equipment and expert support for rodent studies.
  • We are offering advanced support with dozens of preclinical rodent models, related surgical procedures, support in planning and execution of experiments, writing animal ethics licenses, data analyses and management. Although it was initially established with a neuroscience focus, its repertoire has recently been extended to models of metabolic disorders (diabetes), cancer, and cardiovascular disorders, amongst others.

The core provides expertise in an array of acute and chronic experimental models of diverse neurological diseases. Please contact us.

The INBC core as well as members of the steering committee can provide expert help in this field. The core is equipped with state-of-the-art surgery stations and stereotaxic devices:

Experimental deep brain stimulation (DBS)
Microsurgical and stereotaxic implantation of stimulation electrodes is the core expertise and foundation for experimental DBS of Prof. Dr. K. Kiening's group. The Kiening group emphasizes on experimental settings with clinical relevance to transfer preclinical data to patient care.

The INBC offers the most recent version of optogenetics assembly. Optogenetics permits to silence or activate single neurons, their projections or entire circuits via photo-illumination with an extraordinarily high degree of specificity and temporal precision in behaving animals. The system can be combined with any other behavioral tests. Experts in this field can give assistance to the users (Prof. Dr. Rohini Kuner's group, Institute of Pharmacology and Prof. Dr. Thomas Kuner's group, Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology).

In vivo tetrode recording
We offer a state-of-the-art in vivo tetrode recording setup from Neuralynx allowing electrophysiological analyses at a single cell level in an awake, behaving rodent. The system provides opportunities for linking complex behavioral responses to single cell activity and thereby enable functional analyses in a circuit context. It also simultaneously permits measuring field potentials from cell populations and synchronous neuronal activity, such as gamma oscillations, during a behavioral task, e.g. responses to a painful stimulus in an awake animal. This system provides everything you need for any type of electroretinography or visually evoked potential in small animals. Experts in this field can give assistance and training for the users (Prof. Dr. Ricarda Diem's group, Department for Neurooncology).
