Clinical study cycle
The clinical part of the programme is structured in different topical blocks. In the first clinical semester, you start with the propaedeutic block. Here, the courses are organised in modules so that individual subjects are taught and examined within two or four weeks.
The second and third clinical semesters continue with the blocks "Internal Medicine" and "Surgery". These two blocks are interdisciplinary; all topics related to the respective specialities are combined in one semester and examined at the end on an interdisciplinary basis.
Blocks III and IV are taken in the fourth and fifth semesters. Here, like in the propaedeutic block, you go through a modular system. The courses are organised in manageable units so that you can complete them flexibly.

The flexible modular system in the clinical cycle is great and allows me to reconcile my studies with my doctoral thesis and stays abroad.
The clinical study section in Heidelberg is characterised by the fact that you can follow an individual course of study. The course structure in HeiCuMed favours your studies abroad, and there is also a course-free period for your research or dissertation project. The Heidelberg Doctoral Programme of the Faculty of Medicine (MEDISS) supports you in the preparation and completion of your doctorate.
Elective tracks
You will specialize in your studies by participating in an "elective track", which is a multi-semester elective programme on various scientific or clinical topics.
Teaching methods

Teaching in the clinical part of the programme consists of a mixture of traditional and modern teaching methods: In addition to lectures, seminars and practical exercises, you will take part in examination courses, bedside teaching, simulations and communication training, as well as working on e-learning units and "virtual patients".
