Evaluation procedure

The evaluation of the written doctoral thesis usually takes about 6 months (obtaining the expert opinions, deadlines for display, semester breaks...). You will be automatically informed in writing about acceptance of the thesis, correction requirements or missing documents.

The oral examination is to be held no later than 6 months after the dissertation thesis has been approved by the doctoral committee.

Please understand that due to the large number of procedures, it is not always possible to answer interim inquiries about the status of the procedure.

Recommendations for assessment

As far as possible, the following criteria are taken into account by the responsible member in the doctoral committee and reviewers in evaluating a dissertation:

Second and third opinions

As soon as you have submitted your dissertation and all documents concerning the application for admission have been received, a second and third reviewer(s) will be determined at the next meeting of the doctoral committee (remain anonymous during the procedure). The reviewers evaluate the objective, execution and scientific statement of the dissertation and propose its acceptance or rejection to the doctoral committee. If the dissertation is accepted, they evaluate it according to the evaluation criteria of the faculty. They may recommend conditions for the final version of the dissertation.

Reviewers are busy professors and private lecturers, expect the review to take its time; we automatically remind after 4 weeks.

Doctoral Committee

If the second and third expert opinions are available, the thesis is sent to the doctoral committee 14 days before the next meeting date. The committee decides on the evaluation, acceptance or rejection of the dissertation on the basis of the available expert opinions. You will be informed of any correction requirements. As a rule, one correction version is possible. The meeting is followed by a 14 days display period at the office for doctoral affairs, after which the date for the oral examination can be arranged.

Oral examination

The oral examination must be taken within 6 months after acceptance of the dissertation. In justified cases, an extension may be requested before the deadline expires. The date and place of the examination will be arranged by the candidate with the members of the examination board and the Office for Doctoral Affairs will be informed at least 4 weeks in advance.
