Aim of the programme:
In order to enable research at the highest level, an excellent technical infrastructure is required, which is why it is crucial to bundle important specialist knowledge and technological expertise in the form of "core facilities". Core facilities are defined as follows: Shared research infrastructures (centralised or integrated into academic institutions) that provide faculty members with access to large-scale equipment u/o equipment centres as well as the use of special technologies and also offer services, consulting services and other services.
In accordance with the recommendations of the Research Commission and the resolutions of the Faculty Board based on these recommendations, this funding line provides financial support for both the establishment of new core facilities and the operation of existing core facilities at the Faculty of Medicine (infrastructures that are already co-financed by the Faculty of Medicine are excluded from this funding measure). The call for proposals is published once a year.
Funding for personnel, consumables, maintenance contracts or one-off equipment with a purchase value of less than EUR 50,000 can be applied for as part of the funding line. The financial support of the Faculty of Medicine for personnel, consumables and maintenance contracts is to be understood as start-up funding and is limited to a maximum of two years, after which an interim evaluation is carried out, on the basis of which a one-year extension of the funding can be promised if necessary. Permanent financing by the Faculty of Medicine is not possible; the core facility should be permanently funded from its own resources (e.g. user fees) or other sources of financing.
Application requirements and procedure:
Researchers who are employed full-time at an institution of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty and are at least working group leaders (including the Junior Group Leaders of the Heidelberg Medical Faculty (MFHD-JGL)) are eligible to apply. The maximum possible application volume is EUR 125,000 per application (faculty share). The applicant institution must contribute 30% of the funding for the application. A parallel application in one of the two other funding lines of the Faculty's internal programme for medium-sized equipment (funding line 1) and large equipment (funding line 3) in the same call for proposals is only possible if the applications are intended to establish a completely new core facility that is important for the Faculty of Medicine. In such cases, the Dean's Office of Research should be contacted at an early stage.
