Program

The central goal of the Clinician Scientist Programm is to foster participating scientists’ development into scientific group or laboratory leaders. The program is designed for clinicians who are working in scientific research during their medical specialization training (fachärztliche Weiterbildung) and would like to carry out a research project at the Heidelberg University Hospital. Applicants must have a doctorate and above-average qualifications. Participants’ research is accompanied by a mandatory curriculum and mentoring program. Participants are awarded a Heidelberg Clinician Scientist Certificate confirming their completion of the program.

Format

The funding comprises a maximum of two years of full-time research work to be carried out within a period of three years in a research group based at the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg. Within the framework of the research activity, a concrete research project that the selection committee considers to be very good should be worked on. At the beginning, there will be at least one year of full-time research work. The further two years comprise proportionally protected time for the benefit of the funded research activity and clinical training. The research work is carried out to the extent of the funding by the Heidelberg Medical Faculty.

Scope of funding

  • Funding of the protected research time (full-time 100%) of the program participants for two years by the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg; a further year (clinical training) is funded by the host clinic.
  • Dentists alternatively have the option of half of the position being funded for one year, while the second half of the position is provided by the host dental clinic ("GEROK position dentistry")

Complete applications are to be sent exclusively in electronic form (1 PDF without access restriction) to the Research Dean 's Office of the Medical Faculty Heidelberg.

If you have not received a confirmation of receipt within three working days after submitting your application documents, please contact Dr. Birgit Borgards or Ms. Annette von Hippel.
